RAGSuite for developers: API, CLI and MCP, open at the core.
The whole RAG pipeline, crawling, upload, search, chat and widgets, is free under Apache 2.0. Install RAGSuite via CLI or Docker, connect local or hosted models and build on the REST API and the open MCP server.
Community Edition · free · unlimited users and projects
On your server in three commands.
The CLI from npm checks the prerequisites, sets RAGSuite up and starts the API and web interface. Native install is the default; with --docker everything runs in containers. Then you reach the interface in the browser, without an account with us and without a connection to our servers. Later you install updates with one command as well; your data is kept.
$ npm install -g @ragsuite/ragsuite@latest $ ragsuite init # native, or --docker ↓ checking prerequisites · Node · Python · Postgres · Redis $ ragsuite start ✔ api :9090 · web :9191 running → http://localhost:9191: no data left the building.
An API-first platform, documented and open.
REST API and webhooks
Keys, endpoints and webhooks for ingestion, search and chat, for your own apps and automations.

Expose your knowledge over the Model Context Protocol, or connect MCP sources.

@ragsuite/ragsuite installs, starts and updates your instance: native or via Docker.
CLI guide →Source on GitHub
The core under Apache 2.0, public on GitHub. Issues and pull requests are welcome; contributions go through a CLA.
Open the repository →A search via the API, with sources in the answer.
Every API answer includes the passages and documents it comes from. So you can show sources in your own interface and make answers checkable.
$ curl -X POST https://ragsuite.ihre-firma.de/api/v1/search \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $RAGSUITE_API_KEY" \ -d '{"query": "notice period framework contract"}' ✔ 200 · answer + 2 sources · 1.4 s { "answer": "…", "sources": [ { "title": "Logistics_framework.pdf", "page": 7 } ] }

Enterprise features live in a separate directory under a commercial licence; the core stays Apache 2.0. The RAGSuite Engine includes every feature.
The API in the RAGSuite Engine.
Do not want to run your own server? In RAGSuite Engine you use the same REST API and webhooks: run by us in a data centre in Germany. You find your instance’s endpoint in the settings after sign-up: [Endpunkt folgt].
Questions from developers.
Is the Community Edition really free?
Yes. The Community Edition is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and free for good: the whole pipeline, all connectors and MCP, all common language models including local ones, the REST API and running it yourself natively or via Docker, with unlimited users and projects.
What do I need to install it?
A Linux server with Node.js or Docker. The CLI checks the other prerequisites such as Python, PostgreSQL and Redis and sets them up. For a local language model you also need a GPU. The detailed steps are in the documentation at docs.ragsuite.de.
Does RAGSuite run without an internet connection?
Yes. With a local language model RAGSuite needs no outbound connection. The Enterprise Edition is unlocked with a signed offline licence key, without an activation server. That makes RAGSuite suitable for isolated networks too, for example in public authorities or healthcare.
Which language models can I use?
All common model providers with your own API keys, or local models on your hardware. You choose the model per project and can switch later. Your data is not used to train anyone else’s models. In the RAGSuite Engine you choose from the models on offer.
Can I contribute to the project?
Yes. The core source code is public on GitHub. Report bugs as an issue or send a pull request. Contributions go through a contributor licence agreement, so the project stays cleanly licensed. Please report security vulnerabilities not publicly but to security@ragsuite.de.
