AI in care: the right procedure in seconds, even on the night shift.

Care standards, hygiene plan, quality manual, onboarding pack: in care homes and home care services, knowledge sits in folders and files that hardly anyone searches during a shift. RAGSuite answers questions from them with sources and can run on your own servers.

Key points

  • Strict rules apply in care: health data is a special category under Art. 9 GDPR, plus professional secrecy under section 203 of the German Criminal Code.
  • AI pays off fastest for knowledge not tied to residents: care standards, hygiene plan, quality manual, procedures and onboarding.
  • RAGSuite runs on the servers of your facility or provider, without an internet connection if you wish.
  • RAGSuite is not a medical device and makes no care decisions. It answers questions from your documents.
Use

Where AI helps in care.

Care staff need answers in the moment, not after the shift. An AI assistant finds the right passage in your documents and shows the source, so nobody has to guess.

Care standards and procedures

How do we do this here? The current procedure in seconds, even on the night shift.

Hygiene

Hygiene plan, disinfection, outbreak management: the right passage instead of searching a folder.

Quality and inspections

Find the quality manual and evidence quickly when an inspection is due.

Onboarding

New colleagues, agency staff included, find procedures themselves without constantly asking.

Rules

Which rules apply to AI in care?

Health data (Art. 9 GDPR)

Data on health and care needs belongs to the special categories. A data protection impact assessment is usually needed when it is processed.

Secrecy (s. 203 StGB)

It applies to members of the care professions. External providers may only get insight under narrow conditions.

Cloud services

For healthcare providers in Germany, section 393 SGB V governs the use of cloud services. Your data protection officer checks whether it applies to your facility.

EU AI Act

A knowledge assistant for internal documents is usually not a high-risk system. Separately, Art. 50 of the AI Act has applied since 2 August 2026: people must be able to tell that they are talking to an AI. It is not meant for decisions about care or treatment.

RAGSuite is not a medical device and not meant for care, diagnosis or treatment decisions. This is not legal advice.

Operations

Running it in your facility’s network.

RAGSuite runs on your facility’s servers or in your provider’s data centre. Documents, search index and histories stay there; with a local language model no request leaves your network, without an internet connection if you wish.

For content not tied to residents, such as the website with information for relatives, you can also use RAGSuite Engine. For health data we recommend running it on your own servers.

FAQ

Questions about AI in care.

How can AI help in care?

Fastest with knowledge not tied to residents: care standards, hygiene plan, quality manual, procedures and onboarding. Care staff find the current passage in seconds, with the source, even on the night shift. That takes routine questions off team leaders.

Is AI in care compatible with data protection?

Yes, if legal basis, secrecy and data flow are settled. It is simplest when the AI runs in your own network and no health data goes to third parties. If health data is processed, a data protection impact assessment is usually needed. This is not legal advice.

Does the AI make decisions about care?

No. RAGSuite answers questions from your documents and shows the source. Decisions about care or treatment are made by professionals. RAGSuite is not a medical device and not meant for such decisions.

Do we need our own IT department?

Not necessarily. You can also run RAGSuite in your provider’s data centre or with an IT service provider. For content not tied to residents there is RAGSuite Engine, run in a data centre in Germany, without any servers of your own.

Can care staff use the AI on a work phone?

Yes. The RAGSuite mobile app signs in to your own instance, so questions and answers stay in your environment.
